Every day, there are new threads asking if people on the right or left support X stupid bad faith position/question. What's the point? Everyone has each other all figured out by now?
There was a time right after Trump was elected both times that liberals genuinely were curious to learn why. After a decade of whataboutism and "nuh uh" defenses, what else is there left to glean from asking a conservative why they are the way they are?
What do you wanna know? Why do they hate immigrants? "Cuz they're illegal, dumbass" OK but why is it almost exclusively brown and black people getting fucked up/killed by ICE? "Cuz those are the majority of immigrants" OR "It's not, those are just the ones the media shows to get people all riled up". The media is also the fault of everything to them - Trump isn't actually that bad, it's just that all the conservative-owned liberal media makes him look bad, you see!
Why do they hate trans people? "We don't, they can be fuckin weird ass freaks all they want. Just don't expect me to feed into their delusion by calling them their preferred names/pronouns, letting them use a bathroom that me or my child might walk into, or not letting me make fun of/fuck with them"
"Democrats just want to import illegal immigrants so they can pass sex change laws and ruin the country because they hate America and freedom!!" OK... how does that benefit them, exactly? Where do they profit off that? Roadrunner style silhouette of them as they run away
"Obama divides this country!!" How? "He said Treyvon Martin could've been his son!" OK, how is that divisive. Que roadrunner
Joe Biden? 100% a pedophile. Did you see those videos?! Or that meme with the fake quote from his daughter going around!
Donald Trump? Name's only in the files bc Jeffrey Epstein was obsessed with him! He wanted to be Trump soooo bad. Trump was actually working for the FBI to bring Epstein down the whole time!
"The guy who shot Trump in PA was a Democrat!" He was a registered Republican. "But he donated to the Democrats that one time!"
The guy who shot Melissa Hortman and her husband was a registered Republican. "He was hired by Tim Walz, idiot! It's all your governor's fault!" I don't live in Minnesota...
"Charlie Kirk was assassinated just for simply stating his opinion and challenging people's views. The tolerant left!" and also, "Alex Pretti, Nicole Good, and anyone else killed by ICE just should've complied! Mess with our boys and this is what happens!" So normal, every day citizens being murdered in cold blood deserved it for not 100% complying with - in some cases, very unclear or conflicting - directions, yet a purposefully divisive political commentator can only be spoken about with reference and praise. Quoting his own words is enough to potentially get you expelled from your employer and/or doxxed from society.
It's also totally OK to bring a noose to the Capitol, or show Joe Biden bound/gagged on a truckbed decal, or depict Kamala Harris being led down a parade in handcuffs (Mt Pleasant, PA Halloween Parade 2024 for those curious), but if you question ICE or use a specific phrase made popular by kicking people out of restaurants, it's a federal investigation.
What they won't ever admit or tell you is that it's 100% team sports to them. There are no principles or values they won't compromise on if it benefits them to do so. They just want to "win". Although I'd wager that most of these commenters are bots from another land with no vested interest in our politics, I do believe the ones that are here understand the issues we're facing for the most part and probably agree on a base level with dems/socialists. But the required overhaul is massive, the rot too deep. So rather than ban together with their fellow neighbors and constituents, why not side with the other end of the aisle? It's an easier path to victory? A lot of folks probably feel like the world is hopeless and helpless at this point. So if they have to suffer, then there should be an out group that's easy to dominate so they can at least feel good about something. Their lives won't get better, but as long as the other people they don't like also don't get better, there's a silver lining there.
At any rate - why even bother asking the questions? Isn't the posting better served just to talk to other liberals and make fun of em? This could be our silver lining!
