Not every pit bull story is a headline. Some are just eye-rolls, facepalms, or 'you've got to be kidding me' moments. This is the place for the things you may want to share that don’t highlight a pit bull doing something dangerous.

Social Media and Crowdfunding - Attack Reports my Golden Retriever was attacked by a pitbull

Post image
79 Upvotes

I had just gotten home and had the gate closed. A dog approached and was barking at my dog Captain, who is a Golden Retriever. When I turned around to check on the situation, a neighbor's dog, a pitbull, stuck its head through my gate and attacked Captain, sinking its teeth into my dog's snout, and we couldn't get it off him (I was in my yard with my dog). I finally managed to scare the dog off with water. The neighbor couldn't pull his dog off because it turned out the dog wasn't even his! The pitbull belonged to his son! I had to rush my dog Captain to the vet as an emergency. Thank God it wasn't too serious, though he was left with a wound under his eye and injuries in his mouth... I'm sharing pictures of my poor puppy 😭. It hurt him so much that he didn't even fight back, he just waited for them to pull the dog off him, and it made me so sad because my dog literally did nothing, he just went up to the gate because the other dog was barking at him, and he was attacked for no reason! Anyway, that's my story, it happened yesterday here in Santiago, Chile, around 8pm.

Attack on Animal(s) - Pets Pit bull owner dies from medical emergency, pit bull leaves body and starts attacking another small dog leading to a leg amputation - Seymour, CT, Jul 16, 2026

This one is wild and I just found breed confirmation from a witness.

SHELTON, CT — A small dog was attacked by another dog who was protecting its owner who had just died from what appeared to be a medical emergency on a trail in Seymour on Thursday, according to police.

Now, there is a call for monetary donations after the dog suffered serious injuries. The dog was being treated in Shelton as of Thursday.

The incident occurred on a designated trail near Wakely Street in Seymour on July 16. Seymour Police Chief John Bucherati told Patch the man "had some sort of medical issue" and collapsed and died.

His dog remained in the area to protect him, and when another dog walker came by, that dog attacked the smaller dog, severely injuring it, Bucherati said, noting he expected to have more details on Friday.
State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria (R-105), a Seymour resident, posted a call for help on Facebook on Thursday, as the injured dog was being treated at VCA Shoreline Veterinary Hospital in Shelton and likely facing emergency surgery, including a leg amputation.

Klarides-Ditria explained that an hour or two after the man collapsed, a resident out walking her small dog, named Squiggy, came upon the scene.

"As she called for help, the deceased owner's dog ran up and attacked Squiggy, causing devastating injuries," Klarides-Ditria wrote. "Animal Control and police responded immediately."

The owner's dog had been safely leashed while walking, but it was loose when the encounter occurred.

Klarides-Ditria said initial treatment costs for the injured dog are estimated between approximately $5,700 and $7,130, not including after-care.

"Squiggy's owner is understandably traumatized and now facing significant emergency vet bills," Klarides-Ditria said.

Donations can be made directly to VCA Shoreline Veterinary Hospital, 895 Bridgeport Ave., Shelton, CT, 06484; phone number: 203-929-8600.

Prospective donors should mention their donation is for Squiggy.

"This was a heartbreaking, no-fault tragedy that could have touched any of us," Klarides-Ditria wrote. "Please keep both families in your thoughts."

Attack on Animal(s) - Pets Pitbull escapes from dog park and attacks another dog - Castellanza, Italy - July 2026

Upvotes

A pit bull escapes from the dog park and attacks a mixed-breed dog, nearly mauling it. Fortunately, the violent incident outside the dog park on Via De Gasperi did not result in bloodshed or a dead animal.

"I was walking my dog when, suddenly, a pit bull emerged from a gap in the fence and attacked him," says Davide Caforio. "It was a terrifying moment as I tried to separate them with the other owner, who rushed over, but in the end we managed to avoid the worst."

Aside from a few scratches, the mixed-breed dog did not suffer any significant injuries, but the incident highlights the dangers of the dog park, whose fence should be completely redone: "It's open in several places, and it's easy for any dog to slip in and escape from its owner," explains Caforio. "What if this happened while a child was walking by?"

Hence, the city is appealing to secure the dog park as soon as possible.

A man died after he was attacked in a home in West Dallas in January

DALLAS, Texas — Dallas police are asking the public for help in identifying two "people of interest" in fatal dog attack.

A man was killed after he was attacked by a dog at a home in West Dallas on January 7th, officials say.

Officers were called to the house shortly after 3 p.m., at the request of Dallas Fire-Rescue and found 41-year-old Antonio Turner had been attacked by a dog in a home on Pringle Drive, police say.

The man was taken to a hospital where he died, officials say.
According to police, an investigation and autopsy determined that Turner died from injuries "consistent with homicidal violence."

Dallas police provided this video of two men they are claiming to be "persons of interest" that were seen on surveillance video near the location where Turner was found dead.

Article 2:

Dallas Police are asking for the public’s help in locating two persons of interest tied to the January killing of a West Dallas man whose death was initially believed to have been caused by a dog attack.
Antonio Turner, 41, was found with serious injuries on January 7, 2026, after Dallas Police and Dallas Fire-Rescue responded to a call at a home in the 4100 block of Pringle Drive. Turner was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Responding officers first believed a dog had killed Turner. An autopsy later found his injuries were more consistent with homicidal violence, prompting a murder investigation.

Investigators are now trying to identify two men captured on camera leaving the residence after the incident. One was seen wearing a red jacket, while the other, described as tall, was seen walking a dog. Officials believe the dog may have played a role in Turner’s death.

Dallas Police Det. Kenneth Castoral is leading the search for the two men and is urging witnesses to come forward.

“I need anybody who saw what happened to contact me,” Castoral told Fox 4 KDFW. “We don’t have very many witnesses or anyone that’s come forward yet. That’s what I really need is just someone to come forward and tell me what happened.”

Anyone with information about the two persons of interest or Turner’s death is asked to contact Castoral at (469) 781-1261 or kenneth.castoral@dallaspolice.gov.

Follow Up Louisville family says LMAS waited more than a week to remove dogs that killed 2 pets in 1 day - KY, Jul 7, 2026

https://www.reddit.com/r/BanPitBulls/comments/1uwcvct/husky_attacked_and_killed_by_four_pitbulls_july_7

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Louisville family said their three-year-old Husky, Ghost, died after four pit bulls entered a fenced yard in the Taylor Berry neighborhood — and that Louisville Metro Animal Services failed to remove the dogs from the neighborhood for more than a week following the attack.

Rachel McCarty said Ghost was staying with her blind mother-in-law and her dog, Zeke, while McCarty and her family were on vacation. She said the four pit bulls got into the fenced yard, and Ghost ran, pulling the dogs away long enough for Zeke to get inside. Ghost was trapped.

"All four of the dogs had him pinned up on the fence and were attacking him," McCarty said.

Ghost escaped under the house. McCarty said her mother-in-law called LMAS immediately and asked them to get him out. She said LMAS set a trap and told the family to wait. 12 hours later, Ghost came out bloody and badly hurt.

He died days later.

"It's really hard and very emotionally devastating," McCarty said.

After Ghost died, McCarty said LMAS told her those same dogs had killed another dog earlier that same day. She said even after Ghost's attack, the dogs were not taken into custody, but placed on what she described as "house arrest."

McCarty said hours after WDRB began asking LMAS questions, she saw the agency loading up the four dogs — more than a week after the attack.

"We lost a lot of trust in our animal services," McCarty said.

McCarty also said there had been multiple prior incidents involving the same dogs getting loose. And that neighbors know to avoid certain areas, and keep their children inside when dogs are loose.

Neighbors in the area said loose dogs are a recurring problem in Taylor Berry. Resident Tammy Mason said she recently saw a dog chasing a child in the neighborhood.

"He was running, the dogs were running to him," Mason said.

Councilwoman Donna Purvis, who represents part of west Louisville, said she has received more complaints about loose dogs than she can count.

"LMAS — they have their own issues," Purvis said. "They're really not staffed to handle a lot of the issues and concerns. We have to address this. This is life threatening."

Purvis said she asked LMAS to increase patrols in her district, and that the agency agreed to do so last month.

Now, McCarty said her son chose the words for Ghost's urn.

"He decided to put 'my hero and best friend — forever in our hearts,'" McCarty said.

But McCarty said Ghost should not have had to die a hero.

In a statement Thursday morning, LMAS said it was aware of social media posts about the incident, understands the community's concerns and is investigating the case.

"When Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) responds to reports involving aggressive dogs, a bite to a person or dog attacks, officers must first assess the safety of the scene, identify and locate the animals involved, gather statements from witnesses, document evidence, and determine the appropriate enforcement action based on the facts of the investigation and applicable ordinances. While we understand that these situations are extremely emotional, our officers must ensure they have enough information to take legally appropriate action.
"The decision to impound a dog is based on the specific circumstances of each case and the authority provided under local ordinances and state law. Each case is evaluated individually based on the available evidence, the severity of the incident, public safety concerns, the owner's compliance, and the applicable legal requirements. Not every dog involved in an incident can be immediately impounded, but if circumstances warrant additional enforcement as the investigation progresses, LMAS can take action.

"Regarding reports of dogs that repeatedly roam or behave aggressively, we strongly encourage residents to continue reporting every incident to LMAS. Multiple documented complaints help establish a history of behavior, which is an important factor during investigations and enforcement actions. We also encourage anyone who safely can to provide photographs, videos, witness information, or other evidence that may assist animal control officers.
"If LMAS receives a report of loose or aggressive dogs, officers will respond based on the priority of the call, attempt to locate and safely secure the animals, investigate any ordinance or KRS violations, and take enforcement action when supported by the evidence. Depending on the circumstances, this may include warnings, citations, impoundment, or criminal charges when applicable.

"We understand the community's concerns regarding repeated incidents involving loose or aggressive dogs and remain committed to investigating these reports thoroughly and taking enforcement action consistent with the law and the facts of each case."

Justice: Final Verdict 'Out of control' XL Bully savages man in Huddersfield pub with 'devastated' dog owner 'a mess' (7th February 2026. Fartown, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, UK)

Attack in Huddersfield pub left man with deep wound to his cheek

A man has admitted being in charge of a dangerously out of control XL Bully dog which bit a man in a Huddersfield pub, causing a deep wound to his cheek.

Martin Laird, 43, admitted being in charge of the dog, a three-year-old XL Bully called Hamish, which bit Ashley Roper inside the Railway Inn pub on Bradford Road, Fartown, on February 7 this year, Kirklees magistrates' court was told. Michele Benjamin, prosecuting, said police officers were called to the pub at 5pm to reports that a man had suffered a deep dog bite wound to his cheek, and two cuts to his jaw.

Laird, of Clara Street, Fartown, had contacted the ambulance service and accepted he was the joint owner of the dog. Mr Roper was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for treatment, while Laird and his partner were arrested. The XL Bully was put down by police. Laird's partner faced no further police action.

In mitigation, Jonathon Slawinski, described the background as a "tragic situation all round". Laird and his partner had owned Hamish since he was a puppy and the dog had an exemption certificate from Defra (the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) which allowed the dog to be legally kept if certain conditions were met, including public liability insurance, being muzzled and castrated, all of which had been complied with in the case of Hamish.

Mr Slawinski said Laird and his partner had wanted to take over the running of the Railway Inn. The bite victim, Mr Roper, was known to both and had not supported the prosecution.

"Mr Laird is devastated about what happened," Mr Slawinski told the cour.t. "He was at the pub on the date in question. It was quiet, the pub was shut. Mr Roper had not seen Hamish since being a puppy. He started patting and playing with Hamish and it has sadly bitten his face.

"I am not trying to diminish what happened. Mr Laird wanted to get him to hospital." Laird was said to be in tears and "in bits" when police arrived at the pub. After photos were shown to magistrates of damage caused inside the pub by Hamish, Mr Slawinski said this had happened after 12 police officers had arrived, causing the dog to take out its frustration on a settee.

Laird had been offered a conditional caution by police on the proviso that he attended a dog course. However, Laird had been so upset he hadn't been able to complete the course and so was charged with the offence.

Laird had phoned the police a week after the attack and was told that Hamish had been euthanised the night of the attack, Mr Slawinski added. That news had sent him and his partner "into a mess".

"It's a sad case all round - and he's lost the dog." Mr Slawinski said Laird, who now owned a cat, had a long-standing problem with alcohol but was proud to be 35 days sober.

Magistrates noted that the case had been "extremely distressing and emotional" for Laird and his partner and that Laird had followed all the guidelines in relation to the dog. Magistrates told Laird, who is on benefits, to pay fines and costs totalling £253.

Attack on Animal(s) - Pets Aberdeen dog owner thought spaniel Laena was going to die in her arms after horror ‘large bully-type’ attack - UK, Jul 14, 2026

A Ferryhill woman has spoken of the horrific moment she thought her cocker spaniel was going to “die in her arms” after being attacked by a “large bully-type dog”.

Proud dog mum Stephanie was out walking her three-year-old cocker spaniel Laena on the morning of Tuesday 14 July around Duthie Park.

After deciding on a “change of scenery”, she decided to stroll back through the “peaceful” Allenvale Cemetery across the road.

With Laena on the lead, Stephanie says she noticed another woman with what she described as a “large bully type dog”, that was not on the lead.

“We were going in opposite directions, and there was a good distance between us, so initially I wasn’t concerned,” Stephanie told The Press and Journal.

“But then I noticed her dog see my dog and the dog started running towards me.”

The dog attack took place inside Allenvale Cemetery.

‘My dog was screaming’

Stephanie explained that after hearing about the “puppy” that was killed in an attack at Greyhope Bay last week, her immediate instinct was to pick Laena up.

But what followed was a “frightening” ordeal for both she and her pet.

Stephanie said the woman’s dog started “jumping up” and “snapping” at her dog.

“I was screaming for the other owner to get her dog.
“But they got a hold of my dog’s leg and tried to drag her out of my arms.

“My dog was screaming.
“I was shouting for help.”

‘I thought my dog was going to die in my arms’
Stephanie was able to gather Laena back into her arms and ran from the graveyard, unaware of the extent of Laena’s injuries.
She took her straight to the vet.

“It was the most frightening thing I have ever experienced,” Stephanie said as she reflected on the incident.
“I thought my dog was going to die in my arms and there would be nothing I could do to help.

“If I had not picked her up when I did, that dog could have had her by the throat and could have killed her.

“Although they say don’t pick up your dog, that saved her life.

“That was the most important thing to me in that moment.”

“In the moment where a dog is aggressive and biting your dog, all of the things you think you know tend to go out of the window and it’s replaced with blind panic.”

“It was a shocking moment.”

“You never think these things will happen to you.”

‘Laena is so resilient’

Stephanie says she has been left “constantly looking over her shoulder” since the incident.

But she has been able to take Laena out on a walk since the “frightening” ordeal.

“She is so resilient,” Stephanie added.
“Just incredible.”

She remains hopeful the owner of the dog that attacked her pet can be identified.

Police have confirmed they are aware of the attack.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 12.45pm on Tuesday July 14, officers received a report of a dog-on-dog attack in the Allenvale Road area of Aberdeen.

“Inquiries are at an early stage.”

Video: Pitbull kills cat and owner watches attack without stopping it in Manaus"

Summary of the Reporting:

  • The Incident: Security camera footage captured a pit bull attacking and killing a domestic cat on a public street in Manaus.
  • The Controversy: The video caused widespread outrage because the dog's owner was present during the entire attack, holding the leash, but stood by passively and watched without making any significant attempt to pull the dog away or save the cat.
  • Legal Implications: In Brazil, allowing an animal to attack another or failing to control a dangerous animal can lead to charges of animal cruelty or breaches of local public safety ordinances regarding responsible pet ownership (such as mandatory leash and muzzle laws for specific breeds in public spaces). Local animal rights advocates and authorities typically investigate these recorded incidents to identify the owner for potential legal action.

This post doesn't give all the details. Why no young children. Why can't he socialise like a normal dog at THREE YEARS OLD ?

Edit: In the first two photos he has a bit of whale eye. I would not approach that dog if I was looking to adopt.

Animal Fatality(ies) - Pets Brooklyn pit bull attack: Woman demanding action after 2 unleashed pit bulls mauled her dog to death - NY, NY, Jul 6, 2026

Thumbnail abc7ny.com

BROOKLYN (WABC) -- A dog owner is struggling with the loss of her dog after it was mauled to death by two pit bulls on her own front lawn in Brooklyn.

She says the unleashed dogs attacked her pet of 11 years right in front of her.

"They were right on my chest, one on each side. I was scared they would eat me," Regina Nicholson said.

Nicholson said a pair of huge pit bulls charged at her and ended up killing her 11-year-old dog named Bella.

The grandmother of three spoke exclusively to Eyewitness News.

"I was holding onto Bella, let her go, they were trying to take Bella, I wouldn't let her go," Nicholson said.

She said the violent incident unfolded in front of her home in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn on July 6th.

She said she took Bella, who was on a leash, out for a walk, but didn't get far.

She said she looked up and saw the dogs off-leash with no one around.

"I picked Bella up, coming up the steps, and I got bitten. I didn't know they followed me," Nicholson said.

Nicholson said she tripped, and the pits pounced.

"I just remember that frantic scream, like somebody died," neighbor Lynette Jeremiah said.

"They snatched Bella away from me. I ran upstairs and got my phone," Nicholson said.

She followed the dogs around the corner to Church Lane and took pictures of them.

She said a man pulled up in an SUV and drove off with the dogs.

Nicholson went back home and saw Bella dead on the front lawn.

"She was my companion; she doesn't deserve to die that way," Nicholson said.

Lynette says she's seen the dogs in a fenced-in area and complained to another man who lives there about the dogs barking all night.

Lynette said the man told her he got them because people are stealing everything he has on his property.

David insists the dogs aren't his.

He says the man in the SUV sometimes lives in a truck with the animals, parked on his street.

"Last time over here I saw him, I told him take the dog out and he took the dog out," David said.

Nicholson was not seriously hurt, but she was so traumatized that she spent four days in the hospital in the cardiac unit.

Police did take a report of the incident.

Regina is determined and says the man must be held accountable.

I want those pit bulls, they are vicious, they have to be put down," Nicholson said.

Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) A woman has begun a campaign to change the law after her dog was killed by a "bully hybrid" - 2025

Karen Hawthornwaite, 55, of Darwen, began a campaign to strengthen the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 after her seven-year-old Lhasa Apso, Benji, was attacked by an off-lead unmuzzled pocket bulldog in 2025 - and had to be euthanised.

Despite capturing the attack on CCTV, Karen said it did not meet the criteria for prosecution. "We were all terrified, not just Benji, I was terrified for my life as well," she said. She wants a legal change so all dog-on-dog attacks are taken seriously.

Lancashire Police said it had sought expert advice but the incident "did not meet the criteria" under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991, dog attacks on other animals may amount to an offence, but it is for the individual police force and Crown Prosecution Service, to decide whether this is appropriate, on a case-by-case basis.

Karen says she was just metres from her home when Benji was approached and attacked by the bully hybrid
"I saw Benji in my arms then just looking up at me like 'just help me Mum'," Karen recalled to BBC North West Tonight.

"I had to hold on to the lamppost because this dog was that strong, it was pulling me and it was pulling Benji further in."

She said the attack left Benji with serious injuries, which led to him needing to have his leg amputated and eventually being euthanised.

The dog in question was a pocket bulldog - a cross-breed that is technically not on the dangerous dogs list.

But Karen argues that mixed breeds of dogs such as pocket bulldogs fall under a "grey area", allowing dangerous dogs to "evade the full force of the law".
"I don't even know where this dog is now," Karen said. "The police haven't told me. I've asked for all this information and I've just been blanked," she claimed.

A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said the force had sought expert advice before deeming that the incident "did not meet the criteria of any offences under the Dangerous Dog Act".

The spokesperson added: "However to reduce the likelihood of a similar incident happening again, the owner of the pocket bulldog was given an Acceptable Behaviour Contract under the Anti Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act, 2014 with specific conditions which include ensuring their dog is on a lead at all times in residential areas."

Sheena Stoddart, 63, from Bury, is another pet owner whose dog was killed in a dog-on-dog attack
Sheena Stoddart, 63, from Bury, in Greater Manchester, met Karen through her campaign, having been the victim of a similar incident in May.

Sheena was walking her toy poodle Henry when she spotted a dog off the lead, without an owner and decided to walk around to avoid it.

"There was no sign of aggression, so I walked around a parked car to avoid it," Sheena recalled.
"It then unexpectedly came around behind us, grabbed him and shook him to death before ripping him apart.

"It was too quick for me to even attempt to save him."
Sheena said she was "terrified" the dog would attack her too and was "screaming for help".
"I keep reliving the event, I keep seeing Henry's face," she said. "I leave the house now and if we go anywhere and there's a dog of any size off a lead, I have a panic attack, I freeze, I can't move."

Sheena says she ran for help and called the police
"The police came to me that night and said their bosses were saying they couldn't prosecute because it wasn't a crime," Sheena recalled. "He was a pet, so therefore property."

She said the news left her feeling "distraught".
"I feel distraught like he's lost his life for nothing," she said. "Like it doesn't count."
The dog in question was later euthanised.

Trevor Cooper, solicitor and dog law specialist, says current legislation on dog-on-dog attacks is not fit for purpose

"We're all fed up of hearing about these incidents," Trevor Cooper, solicitor and dog law specialist, said. "There are victims who deserve better and the law that we have is a complete mess.

"It is high time the Dangerous Dogs Act was perhaps thrown away and let's start again with something that is fit for purpose."

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) is the government body responsible for providing guidance for police and local authorities on enforcing dog control laws.

"We recognise that attacks on pets can have a devastating impact on owners and we take these incidents seriously," a Defra spokesperson said.
"We continue to work with the police, local authorities and animal welfare groups to encourage responsible dog ownership across all breeds and ensure the current dog control rules are sufficient to protect communities."

A spokesperson for Dogs Trust UK said: "For more than 30 years, Dogs Trust has been calling on the Government to overhaul the Dangerous Dogs Act, as its current focus on breed-specific legislation is not only detrimental to dog welfare, but it is ineffective and does little to protect members of the public.

"Instead, the issue of dog control should be tackled by introducing preventative, breed-neutral legislation which addresses the unscrupulous breeders who are putting profit before welfare, and owners whose dogs are out of control."

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said, in response to Sheena's case, the force took "a public safety approach to dangerous dogs and banned breeds of dog".

"When we come across or receive information about such a dog we will proactively look to seize it so it can be assessed by our experts and an informed decision can be made as to whether or not to allow that dog to remain with its owner," they added.

"Public safety is always at the heart of any decision we make, and we have several criminal and civil powers that allow us to take this approach."

Bitten and Bruised Woman Hurt in Pit Bull Attack on Elston St in Philadelphia, PA, Jul 13, 2026

Philadelphia, PA (July 14, 2026) – A woman suffered multiple lacerations on Monday, July 13, after being attacked by a pit bull in the city’s Northwest section.

The attack happened on the 1800 block of Elston Street, according to police. The dog was contained in a bathroom afterward, and the homeowner told officers they didn’t know who owned the animal.

Philadelphia Fire Department medics units treated the woman at the scene following the attack. Philadelphia Animal Care and Control responded to take custody of the dog and look into the circumstances.

The woman’s condition and further details about the attack were not immediately available. The investigation into this case remains active.

We hope the injured woman recovers quickly from her injuries.

CAN A DOG BITE VICTIM SUE WHEN THE OWNER IS UNKNOWN IN PHILADELPHIA, PA?

Yes, a victim can still pursue a claim even when the dog’s owner isn’t immediately identified, since Pennsylvania law allows a claim against whoever is later found to have custody or control of the animal, including a resident of the property where the attack occurred.

Pit bull attacks can cause deep lacerations, puncture wounds, and nerve damage that can require stitches, reconstructive care, or physical therapy well after the initial treatment. Scarring and infection risk also make follow-up medical visits important, even after the wound itself starts to heal.

Pennsylvania holds dog owners strictly liable for certain damages under the state’s dog law, which means a victim doesn’t always need to prove the owner was negligent, only that the dog caused the injury.

Since ownership is unclear in this case, a Philadelphia dog bite lawyer can help track down animal control records, veterinary registration, or witness statements from neighbors to establish who is legally responsible.

Figuring out who’s accountable when a dog’s owner isn’t immediately known can feel like an uphill battle. At Rand Spear The Accident Lawyer, we can help track down that information and explain to you how Pennsylvania’s dog bite laws apply.

If you were attacked by a dog, we can walk you through your possible options. Call Rand Spear The Accident Lawyer at 1-800-905-3425 to speak with our team about your situation.

Animal Fatality(ies) - Pets Family says dog died protecting 12-year-old girl during West Chester attack - PA, Jul 13, 2026

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (WPVI) -- A West Chester family says its dog died after protecting a 12-year-old girl from an aggressive dog, and the family plans to seek charges against the other dog's owner.

Surveillance video shows a loose dog repeatedly jumping on a girl who was holding her own dog. The girl attempts to shield her dog and move away, but the larger dog continues approaching.

The larger dog then grabs the smaller dog and attacks. The family says it ultimately led to the pet's death.

The dog that died was Durkio, a 5-year-old emotional support animal for a 12-year-old girl.

"My dog was trying to protect my child from getting attacked by this pit bull," said Tiarra Collins of West Chester.

The incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. Monday on the 200 block of South Matlack Street.

Collins said her daughter, Lyric, had been outside their apartment talking with friends after walking Durkio.

"This is where my daughter is saying everything started," Collins said.

Collins and her wife, Alyssa, were inside at the time and said they heard screams. They said they were eventually able to get the larger dog to release Durkio and then rushed him to a veterinarian.

"Severe spinal damage, spinal fractures, they said the gashes around his neck were pretty severe," Collins said.

The family said Durkio was euthanized because of his injuries.

Police responded to the scene, and the investigation is now being handled by the Brandywine Valley SPCA.

As they mourn the loss of Durkio, Collins and her family say they want the other dog's owner to be held accountable.

"At the end of the day, it's the owner's responsibility, no matter what the breed is, no matter how they're trained, that owner is responsible for that dog. That dog shouldn't have been out the house without a leash without her knowledge," Collins said.

The case is under investigation.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA said the attacking dog is not in its custody at this time. The case remains under investigation, and no charges or citations have been filed.

The Gofundme tells the same story, in less detail, but I'll post it here anyway.

---

On the evening of July 7, 2026, our sweet dog, Ghost, was brutally attacked by four pit bulls who got into our fenced in backyard while he was playing with our mother-in-law's dog. Ghost bravely protected his best friend during the attack and suffered serious injuries, requiring emergency veterinary care. Ghost was able to escape under the house. When animal control came to try and help get him out, he was too scared to move. He hid under the house for almost 12 hours, terrified, bleeding and wounded until 7:15am the morning of July 8th and we immediately took him to the vet, desperate to save his life. While we did everything we could to save Ghost, he earned his wings and crossed the rainbow bridge on July 9th at 2:18am. Our family is heartbroken, empty, and struggling to navigate a new life without such a big part of our family.

If you're able to donate, no matter the amount, it will go directly toward paying for the vet bills Ghost required and memorial items for our family to remember him by. If you're unable to donate, sharing Ghost's story would mean just as much to spread awareness. Thank you for your kindness, support, and prayers as we grieve during this time.

An elderly man has been seriously injured in a dog attack involving an animal that had already been impounded twice this year for roaming.

Emergency services were called to the incident on Russell St South in Hastings about 2.20pm, police said.

A woman who was stopped at a red light at a nearby intersection saw the man being attacked by a “very stocky” brown and white dog, which she described as a bull-type breed.

“I just saw an elderly gentleman on the floor with this dog just tossing him from side to side,” the woman, who asked to remain anonymous, told Stuff.
“And he's just screaming out ‘Help me! Help me! Get it off!’”

She said there was a woman in a ute next to him who was also screaming, and another dog standing in the tray of the ute, barking loudly.

The dog appeared to have gripped the man in the chest area, as passers-by rushed over to help.
“It was a grey-haired lady and another man, pulled the dog backwards, which I wouldn't have dared to have done, but I suppose the adrenaline kicks in and you just help, don't you?” the woman said.

A staff member at nearby medical practice The Doctors Hastings told Stuff several of its nurses rushed to provide first aid after the attack.
Animal Control managed to capture the dog, police said.

Hato Hone St John confirmed the person received serious injuries and was taken to Hawke’s Bay Hospital via ambulance.

A spokesperson for Hastings District Council told Stuff the dog was an American Staffordshire/pit bull cross.

The dog was impounded twice in may for roaming, and has been seized by Animal Control, which in investigating alongside police.

Animal Fatality(ies) - Pets Kansas City, Kansas family attacked by three dogs, beloved pet killed - KANSAS CITY, Kan, Jul 11, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — What began as an ordinary evening ended in heartbreak for the Raveill family on Saturday.
Abby Raviell had just fed her two dogs, Bella and Bentley, around 5 p.m., Saturday and headed outside to get the mail.

Like always, both dogs were on leashes. Moments later, everything changed.

Her Husband, Matthew Raveill said a German shepherd crossed the street on Parkview Avenue and attacked Abby and punctured her wrist. Before she could react, two pit bulls joined the attack
Matthew initially thought the noise was children playing. He was inside, a decent distance from his wife to hear properly. When Abby didn’t come inside, he knew something was wrong.

“When I opened the door, there were three large dogs, two neighbors that I’ve never met,” Matthew said. “My wife was on the ground crying, wrestling with a pit bull that had our dog in its mouth.”

The attack stretched from the family’s mailbox to the front door of their home as Abby desperately tried to protect Bella and Bentley. Matt rushed outside to help.

“So, I tried to pry its mouth open and rolled around with it, but couldn’t do it,” Matthew said.
Another neighbor came over with a flashlight, and we were able to get it to release.”

Matt suffered injuries to his hands during the struggle. Abby was left with bruises on her knees and a deep puncture wound to her right wrist. She was treated at St. Luke’s Community Hospital on Parallel Parkway, while Matt and the couple’s daughter, Madi, rushed Bella and Bentley to Mission Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital. But despite everyone’s efforts, the family’s beloved dog, Bella, could not be saved.

“You could tell Bella was badly wounded,” Matthew said.

The family says Abby tried to shield Bella from the attacking dogs, but one of the pit bulls ripped Bella from her arms. Veterinarians later determined Bella’s injuries were too severe, and the 6-year-old dog was euthanized.

Bentley, 5, survived the attack. Abby said the loss has been difficult for the entire family, adding that Bentley now walks past the house looking for Bella.

Wyandotte County Animal Services said one of the victims called the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department Emergency Dispatch to report an attack involving three dogs Saturday evening. At approximately 12:30 a.m., Sunday July 12, the Reveill family again contacted dispatch to file a report regarding the attack the previous evening.
A KCKPD officer was dispatched to the residence to collect details and file a report. The Reveill family had the latter half of the incident recorded on their Ring camera.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing by “Following established protocol, a notice of a bite quarantine was issued at the residence. In response, the owners contacted Animal Services and willingly brought the dogs today to the shelter for the required 10-day quarantine. The investigation into this incident remains ongoing by KCK Animal Services.

As the Raveill family continues to heal physically and emotionally, they say they’re grateful they weren’t alone that day.

“You don’t know how fast life can change,” Matthew said. “We are very thankful for our neighbors.”
Now, they’re sharing their story in hopes of reminding others how quickly an ordinary moment can turn into a life-changing tragedy and to thank the neighbors whose quick actions helped bring the terrifying attack to an end.

Breed is not confirmed.

THABA NCHU – A grieving family in Thaba Nchu is demanding justice after their 73-year-old mother died following an alleged dog attack that has left them heartbroken and full of questions.

The woman, a respected elder in the community, was reportedly attacked by dogs in the area. She was rushed to hospital but later died from her injuries. Her family says they are not satisfied with how the matter is being handled and are calling for a full and proper investigation.

The incident has sent shockwaves through Thaba Nchu, a town in the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality in the Free State, where many residents are now worried about the safety of their loved ones, especially the elderly.

Family Demands Justice After 73-Year-Old Woman Dies in Alleged Dog Attack

The daughter of the deceased has spoken out publicly, expressing deep pain and anger over what happened to her mother. In an emotional statement, she described how the family received the devastating news and how they feel let down by those who should have protected a vulnerable elderly woman.

The family believes the attack could have been prevented. They are questioning why the dogs were able to attack in the first place and are demanding that those responsible be held accountable. They have called on police and local authorities to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.

Community members who knew the 73-year-old woman have described her as a kind and gentle person who was loved by many. Her death has left a huge gap in the family and in the wider neighbourhood, where she was known for her wisdom and caring nature.

The family has made it clear that they will not rest until they get answers and see justice served. They say their mother’s life mattered and that no one should have to die in such a painful and frightening way.

Details of the Tragic Incident in Thaba Nchu

According to the family, the 73-year-old woman was attacked by dogs while she was in the area. She suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, she passed away later as a result of the wounds she sustained.

The exact circumstances of how the attack happened are still being investigated by police. It is understood that the dogs involved may have been stray or roaming animals in the neighbourhood. The family has raised concerns that such dogs have been a problem in the area for some time.

Dog attacks on humans, especially vulnerable groups like the elderly and children, are a serious concern in many South African communities. In Thaba Nchu and surrounding areas, residents have previously complained about packs of stray dogs that pose a danger to people going about their daily lives.

The incident has highlighted the need for better control of stray and dangerous dogs in townships and rural areas. Many families now fear for their safety when walking in their own neighbourhoods.

Family’s Allegations and Calls for Investigation

The family has alleged that the attack was not properly prevented and that authorities did not act on previous complaints about dangerous dogs in the area. They are calling for a thorough police investigation and want to see those responsible for the dogs held to account.

They have also appealed to the Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality to step in and address the broader problem of stray animals. The family believes that if action had been taken earlier, their mother might still be alive today.

In their public statements, family members have expressed frustration with what they see as a lack of urgency from officials. They say they want answers about why a 73-year-old woman was left vulnerable to such a brutal attack.

The family is also seeking support from community leaders and civil society organisations to help them push for justice. They have made it clear that they will continue to speak out until they feel their concerns have been properly addressed.

Broader Issues of Stray Dogs and Safety in Communities

Incidents like this one shine a light on the wider challenge of managing stray and dangerous dogs in South African towns and townships. Many areas struggle with large numbers of uncontrolled animals that can pose risks to residents, particularly the elderly, children and people with disabilities.

Municipalities are responsible for enforcing bylaws related to animal control, but limited resources and capacity often mean that problems are not addressed quickly enough. In Thaba Nchu and other parts of the Free State, residents have raised concerns about packs of dogs roaming freely and attacking people or livestock.

The death of the 73-year-old woman has sparked renewed calls for better enforcement of animal control measures and for more proactive steps to remove dangerous dogs from communities. Animal welfare organisations have also pointed out the need for responsible ownership and better education around caring for pets.

For families who have lost loved ones in such attacks, the pain is made worse by the feeling that the tragedy could have been avoided with better prevention measures.

Police Response and Ongoing Probe

Police in Thaba Nchu have opened a case following the incident and are investigating the circumstances of the attack. Officers are working to establish exactly what happened and whether any criminal charges should be laid.

The investigation will look into how the dogs came to attack the woman and whether the owners, if identified, can be held responsible under the law. In South Africa, owners of dogs that cause harm can face legal consequences if negligence is proven.
Police have urged anyone with information that could help the investigation to come forward. They have also appealed to the public to remain calm while the matter is being handled through the proper legal channels.

The family has welcomed the police involvement but says they will continue to monitor the case closely to ensure that it receives the attention it deserves. They have asked for regular updates on the progress of the investigation.

Community Reaction and Support for the Family
The news of the 73-year-old woman’s death has deeply affected the Thaba Nchu community. Many residents have expressed their condolences to the family and have shared their own fears about stray dogs in the area.

Community leaders and organisations have offered support to the grieving family and have joined calls for stronger action to deal with dangerous animals. Some have suggested community meetings to discuss solutions and to put pressure on local authorities to act.

The incident has also sparked wider conversations on social media and in community gatherings about how to improve safety for everyone, especially the elderly who are often most at risk.

As the family continues to demand justice, they say they are drawing strength from the support they have received from neighbours and friends. They remain determined to honour their mother’s memory by fighting for accountability and change.

The coming weeks will be important as the police investigation unfolds and as the family pushes for answers. For now, they are focused on laying their mother to rest with dignity while continuing their quest for justice in a case that has touched many hearts in Thaba Nchu.

Note to Mods: I apologize these articles are behind a pay wall, but I think the amount of the article I’m able to get gives enough of the story that it’s appropriate to post here if not, feel free to delete.
I unfortunately couldn’t find resources from the public news sites (I pay enough for them-I wish they would report but this is considered “small local news”)
