News Adelaide house prices map & article update

Thumbnail mappage.net.au

Best if you have a big screen

My article with maps of the median house prices for each suburb, and a few other nerdy charts. Same as I've posted here before, just updated with the latest quarter of sales data.

The tax changes only came in recently so don't affect the upward trend. Some suburbs dropped in Q2 but by default it's showing the last four quarters.

News Retired teacher says year 12 marks are being inflated in 'unfair' grading system

Thumbnail

In short:

A retired teacher says some educators are inflating the grades of year 12 students, and that the current moderation process is "unfair".

Other teachers agree, while the Independent Education Union says the alleged practice is not surprising because teachers want to show their students' best work.

What's next?

The SACE Board, which moderates the grades, says there is no evidence of the practice, but is considering changes to the process.

Question One armed Maslin bather

The one and only my time I went nude surfing a one armed woman dived under my board as I caught a wave across the beach.

This happened in the late70s or early 1980s.

Does anyone else remember a one armed naked bather?

Just trying to back up an oft repeated story.

News Drink Driver misses at least 5 sets of green lights in CBD

A man was detected drink driving after sitting through multiple green lights in the CBD in the early hours of this morning. At 1.40am on Friday 17 July, police received a report that a VW wagon was stationary at the intersection of King William Road and Grenfell Street, Adelaide for about 30 minutes.

The car missed at least five cycles of traffic light changes.

Police attended and the driver, a 34-year-old Norwood man, recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.176 - over three times the legal limit. He was reported for drink driving and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

His car was impounded for 28 days and he was issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence.

Apparently it’s one of the City Lights instalments and it’s called ā€˜Checkmate’ but it’s not showing up when I search it on the Illuminate website. I really wanna witness this majesty for myself.

Discussion Is dating in Adelaide exhausting for anyone else?

Not just venting. Genuinely asking.

People don't reply. Matches go quiet after "hey." Anyone else end up juggling way more matches than they actually care about?

Has anyone found something that actually works here? Or are we all just stuck swiping into the void?

Question Metrocard for train journey

Just a trivial question.

I'm new to Adelaide (and Australia in general), and whenever I take the train, I don't really see other people tapping their MetroCard? More often than not people would just enter and find a seat straightaway. Is it ..normal? šŸ¤”

Self The wind drought continues

Post image
7 Upvotes

Just posting regarding the wind drought in SA over the next week, this will probably affect those of you looking to gain on spot prices with solar and batteries installed.

Just a heads up.

I don't have batteries or solar installed on my rental.

A good mate with both a Tesla 2 and 3 battery is utilising custom discharge to the grid settings at the right moment to maximise profit by looking at the spot prices.

Edit: Old mate has also setup up manual gating to prevent automatic discharge to the grid at the whim of his provider. Maintaining charge in his batteries going into the evening.

Click Price and Demand, then SA for local real-time stats.

Edit 2: and there it is at 7pm tomorrow, confirming the wind drought.

Question Woodworking & carpentry classes/workshops

Does anyone have information on where adults can sign up for beginner woodworking or carpentry classes? Not trying to make a career change or anything, just a regular class as a hobby.

Preferrably somewhere in the city, Mawson Lakes, or Salisbury

Thanks!

Discussion Uni of Adelaide

So I’m on a scholarship to study mechatronics engineering in Australia but I’m still considering which uni to go to. I’ve heard good things about Adelaide but going through some posts from about half a year ago, I’m seeing a bunch of things about a merger and the uni being a shitshow. But considering it’s been a while I just wanna see how things are going now. Cuz ngl I really like Adelaide as a city (never been) but like I’ve seen a bunch of nice things about the city itself. I’m just wondering how’s the uni now and is there anything I need to know before coming? Or perchance different city and uni recommendation? Anything would be helpful.

Question Early Morning Taxi/Uber to Airport

I have a 6AM flight to catch next week. I’ve been burned in the past by both ride share and taxis where they accept the fare the day prior but cancel at last minute.

Anyone have any tips to ensuring someone will for sure turn up at my house at 4AM on a Tuesday morning? I am only a 20 minute drive away at this time of day.

Am I better to go with a taxi service ? If so, any recommendations?

šŸ”„"TONIGHT"šŸ”„

Hey, just a quick one — All A’Board men’s community board game group is on again tonight. Last month we had about 25 blokes rock up and it was a really good night.

If you’ve been thinking about coming along, tonight’s probably a decent one to check out. It’s pretty easy going.

We meet at Salisbury East Neighbourhood Centre (28 Smith Road, Salisbury). If you want to text ahead or have any questions, just message 0438 784 851.

Also, Shaun’s just started another group in Two Wells on the first Friday of the month (flyer above) if anyone’s keen. It’s a bit further out but only a quick drive up Port Wakefield Road.

I’ll get him to drop the Discord link in the comments if anyone wants to join that.

Should be a good one tonight.

Question Best cozy/natural light library (or similar public indoor facility)

Basically just looking for a third place for a friend and I to meet up that isn’t each other’s houses.

From Google Maps images, it looks like most libraries are just very dark with the gross fluorescent lighting. Was hoping to find a place where it was was lit up by the sun, without actually having to be out in the sun (too cold unfortunately).

I checked a thread on here but it recommended only CBD areas, and I’d prefer the suburbs somewhere (don’t mind distance).

Also - doesn’t have to be a library, but wasn’t sure if there were other facilities available.
