Honestly? its scary how many people are just burned out and whatever about politics right now. I know so many people just tuning out.

People don’t need to follow the 24-hour news cycle to know what’s going on.

That's true, but also people are doom scrolling because that's basically the default way to engage with social media now. These apps are all made to keep you on them, to keep engaging, and the content that provokes fear or anger is way more effective at doing that than the content that promotes contentment.

As a result people are burned out. Engaging thoughtfully requires work, and most people don't realize they should be doing that until after they've burned out.

Idk doom scrolling makes me more amped to vote against the Republican morons.

yup, other than the morning news I try to check out and care as little as possible unless there's something actionable I can do. I know exactly how I'm going to vote and the more I see about what's going on the more it just takes years off my life via stress and anxiety.

I’m mostly tuned out - for my own sanity - but definitely voting and voting Dem. I think many people are like me.

My household is the same. We avoid watching the news, it causes us too much anxiety over things we have no control over. We WILL be at the polls and voting Democrat, come hell or high water. We will be there!

Thank you. ❤️

It bothers me how many people have absolutely no idea what’s going on because they never read the news at all and they think everything is fine

Had an aunt who watched MSNBC religiously. After election night she hasn't watched "news" since.

I watch Jon Stewart.

He bangs it out pretty accurately

2 or 3 times a month, assuming he's not on a long vacation of some sort.

That is the point of what this administration is doing. They want you to burn out. It was part of the Steve Bannon flood the zone strategy.

Tuning out just plays into the hands of the authoritarians.

That is exactly what they want you to do.

Exactly and with them trying to pass their voter suppression laws, that'l make it all the easier to just become apathetic..

It’s the same method Putin uses, where Komrade Kompromat got issued orders to use the same methods

well, if you've ever donated to actblue, you are getting at least 5 donation requests via text a day, even with blocking the numbers it won't stop.

We cannot afford to tune out now. If we don't stop this NOW our democracy is over. I feel burned out too. But if we give up now we will be looking at martial law & they won't only be coming after immigrants.

I hope they don't tune out too much, they NEED to vote in November, hopefully to reign in this very dangerous man occupying the White House

That's the whole point, that's what this is. One more exhausting thing to think about. One more legalistic thing to have to pore over and prove incorrect.

That’s their actual strategy. It’s a tactic called “flooding the zone” which was popularized by Steve Bannon.

Basically, they know that people can’t keep track of more than a couple news stories/controversies at a time. So if you do so many controversial things that you’re constantly in the news, then most people won’t be able to keep up. Eventually they become burnt out from trying, so they just stop consuming news media.

And the ‘I don’t follow politics crowd’ like fuck how can you not right now?

1

u/Pas2739 17h ago

What you're gonna do? Harass them?

Watch from another country where I live mainly

From what everything shows, the MAGA base and conservatives are pretty unmotivated to vote, while the left is very incensed to go vote.

Probably why they're trying to drum up fear, but using the old "red scare" tactics from 75 years ago won't cut it. Most people don't think Democrats are "Marxists and communists", even Republicans.

There was a man in a business suit standing outside the local grocery store yesterday with a clipboard collecting signatures to get on the ballot for town council recently.

I'm fairly well versed in our local politics, and already know which folks I'm voting for, so I politely declined to hear him out as I was mostly just in a hurry to pick up some prescriptions.

As I didn't talk to him, I couldn't venture a guess as to what his politics are, but I will say that he was not white, most likely from India, Pakistan, etc. When I got home I saw three or four posts on our unofficial town facebook about the guy.

"WAS APPROACHED BY A STRANGE MAN AT THE GROCERY STORE, WE RAN BACK TO OUR CARS. WHAT'S HAPPENING TO OUR TOWN."

"IF A MAN TALKS TO YOU OUTSIDE THE GROCERY STORE, DON'T GIVE HIM THE TIME OF DAY, HE'S AN OUTSIDER TRYING TO INFILTRATE THE CITY GOVERNMENT."

"DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THE PERSON TRYING TO TALK TO PEOPLE AT THE GROCERY STORE, SEEMS SUSPICIOUS SHOULD I CALL THE SHERIFF OR THE TOWN POLICE?"

I'm beyond burned out, it feels like at least a third of the population has been brainwashed to not just be overtly biased, but actively terrified of anyone who doesn't look like them. I don't know what the answer is, but I can't believe we're at the point where checks notes a brown person in a nice suit collecting signatures to engage in local politics now warrants a call to law enforcement for some people.

It was aaaaaalll part of Project 2025. I cannot believe more people didn't read it, or take it seriously. It's already too late. The elections will cause massive issues, because they will throw out votes, arrest people, remove elected officials with their own, and ensure that anyone with another opinion is done away with.

If we start organizing NOW, they'll have less of a chance to continue to organize against us.

HOW do we do it? Read. History. ANY FUCKING HISTORY - and it will show us the resolve of human kind, and how we all yearn for freedom, and wish to be treated equally. Nothing will ever be the same. We have to start over from this point on....or at least kick out EVERYONE in office.
