The movie Nuremberg (good flick, check it out if you haven’t) leaned pretty heavily into the idea that nothing really separated the Nazis from other people. It happened in Germany bc Germany allowed it.

It can- and will- happen here. It is happening here.

We need to wake the fuck up and get in the streets day after day.

Problem is much like the Nazi's there's a good chance they can outfight their opposition. The extreme right is more armed, more hateful, less ethical and has the protection of the state.

Not that there's a lot of research but I think Pew institute and John Hopkins have research supporting it. I think you'd be accurate to say people underestimate Democratic gun ownership. And that neither a majority of Democrats or Republicans have a gun-toting majority. But there is like a 2-1 ratio.

I'd recommend watching The Man in the High Castle - a sci-fi "what if" WW2 ended with people like Miller in charge.

There were a lot of psychological/sociological studies done after WWII to try to figure out how people could become so divided and complacent about murdering millions. Turns out, it's really, really simple. In the Robber's Cave experiment, they didn't even have to start the actual experiment before the two groups were calling for each other's blood. The Milgram experiments showed that you just need to wear a labcoat and ask nicely to get people to torture someone to death.

I don’t remember which one it was, but during COVID I made my way through a ton of documentary type series about Hitler and the Nazis.

One of them had clips talking to Germans who lived through it talking about what they think and what they thought back then.

It was really alarming how many of them sounded like MAGA about it, even after living through it and the aftermath.

Lots of talk about dirty blood ruining Germany, borders, shit like that.

It was horrifying. I don’t remember exactly when the interviews had been done, but it was late enough- like the 1980s at least- that we shouldn’t have been hearing it at all.

And there was a lot of “I didn’t do it, I was just living my life, I didn’t even know” thrown in there, too.

Horrifying shit.

What would that do? Genuinely asking. Protests won’t do anything. Unless they’re targeted at any official that isn’t supporting impeachment and removal. I think the only way protesting will do anything is if Republican members of congress are more scared of us than they are of the Trump administration.

Coast to coast, night after night, people in the streets would matter.

I’m not talking about 3 hours on a Saturday morning.

I’m talking every single day, millions of people, shutting shit down. We see other countries doing it, but America just refuses to do it.

I think 3.5% is probably a little smaller than what we need, but protest CAN make a difference. People just can’t be bothered.

Is it that people can’t be bothered? Or is it that people are worried about losing their jobs? Like I’d be down to do it after work and the weekends. And there are people that don’t work typical 9-5s that can maybe be there during the day. But people have to take care of their families.

But if we don’t, it’s not jobs we have to worry about. None of that matters in the America they are very actively building.
