That 3:46-6:00 stretch is absolutely absurd.

On Friday, July 24 at 5pm, Universal Pictures will host a special advance screening of DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island at AMC Mission Valley (1640 Camino Del Rio N, San Diego), and we’re giving our readers the chance to attend, ahead of the September 25 release.

If I'm not mistaken, this is the world premiere of the final cut? Considering both the Cinemacon and Annecy screenings were the work-in-progress cut, and that the next confirmed screening is in August in Melbourne.

Question Those who have seen Odyssey - what are N’yongo and Patel’s chances?

I was recently discussing with a few others in one of the daily discussion threads about how the vast majority of contenders so far are white and how there could even potentially be another #OscarsSoWhite situation. Could these two prevent it?

If not who are some other non-white actors in the race?

Review Thread 'The Odyssey' - Review Thread

Odysseus, king of Ithaca, embarks on a perilous journey to return home after the Trojan War.

Rotten Tomatoes - 97%, 179 reviews

Metacritic - 88, 53 reviews

Jake Cole - Slant Magazine - 3.5/4

"The Odyssey is both faithful and deconstructive, embodying the fluidity of the oral tradition that spawned the poem and kept it alive for millennia through shifting tastes and values."

Matt Zoller Seitz - RogerEbert.com - 4/4

"The interplay of chance and fate is a through-line of this 172-minute IMAX epic, which feels shorter, thanks mainly to the impressive ability of Nolan and his regular editor Jennifer Lame (who won an Oscar for cutting "Oppenheimer") to make time seem elastic."

Peter Bradshaw - The Guardian - 5/5

"The result is a gigantic, shimmering mirage, a mysterious three-hour vision of crazy episodes that does not yield up wisdom or contentment, but only a grim resolution to continue with the fight, to make sense of ruined lives, to re-enter the scorched battlefield of loss."

William Bibbiani - TheWrap

"You can’t say Hollywood doesn’t make them like this anymore. Nobody ever did."

David Rooney - The Hollywood Reporter

"While The Odyssey is uneven, and no match for the sure-footedness and intellectual complexity of Oppenheimer, it’s elevated by the blindingly charismatic ensemble."

David Ehrlich - IndieWire - A-

"While the future may be predetermined, this world is still the sum of what we choose to make of it. To surrender our role in that is to forfeit our humanity, and the opposite will always be true as well. The gods speak obtusely, even in Nolan’s script, but this magnificent epic leaves us with the ability to heed their meaning."

Alonso Duralde - The Film Verdict

"Peak Nolan involves a mix of popcorn delights and intellectual contemplation, and he has rarely brought those two notions together as skillfully as he as in The Odyssey. It’s an epic saga of an epic saga, worthy of its source."

Matt Neglia - NextBestPicture - 9/10

"There is perhaps no filmmaker working today who was better suited to tackle the enormous challenge of adapting “The Odyssey” than Christopher Nolan."

Guy Lodge - Variety

"There's nary a dull moment in the director's typically muscular, temporally complex interpretation, but despite a fine, bone-weary turn from Matt Damon as the wandering king of Ithaca, it's more sensually than emotionally felt."

Richard Brody - The New Yorker

"Nolan, energized by the self-restraining power of modern morality, turns an epic poem prosaic."

Tim Grierson - Screen Daily

"In its chronicling of Odysseus’s arduous journey home following the Trojan War, the film deservedly flaunts its craftsmanship and scope – although this big-screen spectacle is not always as nimble emotionally or thematically. But, like Matt Damon’s haunted hero, viewers will have undertaken an overwhelming experience."
