I am currently a rising 3L planning on going into environmental law. As a people person who values community, I volunteer with a local environmental nonprofit whose main focus is timber sales and protecting old growth. I believe that greater public understanding of environmental law topics is empowering and helps bridge the gap between grassroots organizing and legal work to hold polluters accountable. I want to create a zine that covers common legal topics and major cases. I plan on including the public comment process and some cases I have found interesting in law school, like Citizens United. What topics and processes do attorneys wish more people understood? What admin law topics would be helpful to include? Any recommendations are welcome!

In this excerpt from a recent livestream, climate scientist Daniel Swain explains why the newly proposed rules from the Office of Management and Budget giving political appointees power over federal grants would be a disaster not only for American science, but also for everything from disaster response to public universities to cancer treatment to technological advancement, not to mention American competitiveness on the global stage. Far from being an esoteric rule change, this would represent a dramatic escalation of recent attempts to make critical and non-partisan government functions subject to the ideological and personal whims of whichever political party happens to be in power--up to and including the President directly.
📝 The deadline to submit a public comment opposing this measure to the Federal Register is MONDAY. We can submit ours here, and see what Dr. Swain himself filed here. We can also share the clip to help spread the word. 📝
⚙️ Stand Up for Science is holding a working session on how to write an effective comment today at 2PM ET we can sign up for here, and we can find more background, tips and tools here. ⚙️

We do NOT need to be lawyers or policy experts to have an impact – personal stories and concerns about the harms of PFAS on everyone who would be impacted all matter, and we can read prepared remarks. 💪🏻 Earthjustice has put together a public comment toolkit with tips on how to prepare, guidance on the proposal and how to participate in the hearing here. 💪🏿
