Aб'ява / Announcement Repetitive posts - May 17, 2026
Hi everyone,
You’ve likely noticed a flood of very similar posts in this sub, especially in the last few days. They usually feature rhetorical questions about conscription, or questions about the reasons why these posts are removed (this has been already thoroughly answered multiple times by the mod team).
First, we want to apologize for the clutter. It is very likely that these posts, while coming from various newly created accounts, are the work of a single individual (theoretically it can be a team or a flashmob). Whoever they are, we've been informed they keep making the same posts in multiple Russian language subs.
Because of this targeted, repetitive behaviour, we’ve been forced to take action to keep the feed clean. Moving forward, we have implemented pre-moderation for posts from low-karma accounts. This means if an account is brand new or has low karma, their post will route to our mod queue for review before appearing on the sub.
We want to clarify two important things regarding this change:
We understand why people use alt/new accounts. There are plenty of legitimate, valid reasons to use a burner account for privacy and security. This is why we have been reluctant to implement this change, and we completely support this. The mod team will make our absolute best effort to review the queue and approve legitimate posts from new accounts promptly.
It goes without saying that we are not censoring discussions about conscription. Despite this poster's claims, posts about conscription - whether pro, against, or anywhere in between - are welcome here. We have a wealth of posts on this sub containing useful advice, sincere questions, and diverse opinions on the topic, and that won't change.
We are only filtering for spam, ban evasion, and repetitive bad-faith posting. Thank you all for your patience while we clean things up!
- The Mod Team

Іншае / Other Expat looking for open-minded Belarusians
Прывітанне! Any cool, open-minded Belarusians here who would be interested to meet up with a foreigner from Central Europe? Really curious to speak to locals and learn more about your country, society and culture! 😊
(PS: I'm here for work, I'm not some kind of weirdo who is trying to flee the "decadent West.")

History Looking for Family for Genealogy Project
Hi All!
I'm helping to work on a genealogy project for the larger Bachrach (Бахарах) family. Most Bachrachs come from central Europe (Germany, Austria, Czechia), but there were some that moved east.
There is an off shoot that settled in Belarus in the Mogilev region. We know Khislavichi, Shumyachi, and Samotevichi.
If you are a Bachrach or know of anyone, especially men, who are and would be willing to connect that would be amazing!

Question Do I need a VPN in Belarus?
hi everyone
i’m traveling to belarus in a week and will be staying for less than a week
i have a question about internet access
a russian friend told me that I probably won’t need a VPN in belarus, but i’d like to hear from people who have been there recently
is a VPN necessary for everyday internet use in belarus? are there any websites or services that are blocked?
i’m currently using mullvad VPN, does it work well in Belarus, or is there a better option?
i also have another question, i’ve heard that border officers sometimes check travelers phones when entering belarus, is that true? if phone inspections are common, i’m thinking about bringing a second phone instead of my main one
thanks in advance!

My Belarusian Fiancé(e) I plan to visit my girlfriend for 21 days, as a french citizen what do I need?
I've been many times to belarus (5 times) but for less than 10 days so I only needed my passport, but last time I stayed for longer, at the border between Lithuania and belarus they asked me for "registration" paper or something, they still let me through, and I had to do he registration thing online with e-pasluga, and pay for an insurance.
So my question is I plan to go again the 25th of July, what document do I need? Only passport and insurance ?

Гісторыя / History Card Western Dvina. Vitebsk, 1976
Historical note
The Kirov Bridge was built in 1955 on the site of the Dvina Bridge, which was destroyed during World War II. The bridge was designed by architects I. Georgievsky, A. Prussov, and engineer R. Kopach. The reconstruction of the adjacent Kirov Street was carried out simultaneously, creating a grand entrance to the right-bank part of the city from the railway station. The postcard captures the established architectural appearance of the city center from the Soviet period of the mid-1970s.
Present day
Today, the Kirov Bridge and the adjacent buildings on Kirov Street preserve their historic appearance and are included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus. The bridge remains a vital transport artery of Vitebsk, connecting the Oktyabrsky and Zheleznodorozhny districts. At night, the bridge and embankments are illuminated with modern decorative lighting.

Гісторыя / History Card “Belarus” hotel. Minsk, 1990
Historical note
The hotel design was developed under the supervision of architect L. Pogorelov. Construction took place between 1975 and 1987 on an elevated site near the Svislach River in the Storozhovka district. The 22-story modernist high-rise became a major local landmark, designed to host foreign and Soviet tourist delegations.
Present day
Today, the building retains its original silhouette but has undergone an extensive renovation that concluded in 2014. The modernization updated the facades and added a panoramic exterior elevator to the side of the structure.

Гісторыя / History Card Sovetskaya Street, Gomel, 1979
Historical note
Sovetskaya Street (formerly Rumyantsevskaya) took shape during the late 18th and 19th centuries. The Russian-Asiatic Bank building on the corner of Krestyanskaya Street was constructed in 1910–1912, designed by architect Oskar Munts in the Art Nouveau style with neoclassical elements. During the Soviet era, the street was widened, reconstructed, and lined with new administrative and residential buildings.
Present day
Today, Sovetskaya Street remains the main thoroughfare of Gomel. The former Russian-Asiatic Bank building is a protected architectural monument and houses the Main Department of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus for the Gomel Region. The streetscape largely retains its Soviet-era urban structure integrated with pre-revolutionary heritage.
