As a lifelong football fan only 3 other teams have brought me to tears and made me feel the range of emotions I’ve felt while watching this argentina team (Barcelona during Guardiola, Morocco in Qatar, AC MILAN 2006). Even in the midst of a full blown hate campaign led by anglo saxon protestants aimed at antagonizing an entire latin American country of nearly 50 million people this propaganda will never make me support a European team over any south American team, let alone one that is showing so much heart.

When I watch Argentina plays, I’m almost brought to tears by the love these players have for the greatest player in the world. This is pure South American football, catholics with heart, soul, zeal, ardor going against 2 meter long GIANTS from Europe and WINNING. Add to that the fact that this team believes that they CAN’T lose if they give it all they have, blood sweat and tears for the memory of DIEGO, Messi’s last tango, and their people. Absolute cinema. I’m telling you, I will be with the Argentinian community of my city cheering and singing to encourage your team. IF YOUR TEAM WINS THIS WEEKEND I PROMISE YOU I WILL COME TO BUENOS AIRES LATER THIS YEAR AND GET BAPTIZED IN ROSARIO.

Es una tristeza para ellos que no conocen nuestro país. Los que viven acá en Canadá y los estadounidenses pelotudos que no saben poronga de nada sobre Argentina y el corazón que tenemos. I’m a guy born and brought up in the US, family originally from Bangladesh (lol). I’m not supporting Argentina this time around (only due to the Enzo Fernandez bus fiasco) but the hate that Argentine people are starting to get is almost genocidal.

The way people with the most cursory knowledge about Argentina claiming it’s a land of Nazis, Jews, Israelis with a straight face is beyond ridiculous. A country that’s constantly in financial trouble is somehow the most evil in the world. It’s beyond ridiculous. Pulling up photos of Messi with Netanyahu on the same trip, completely disregarding that he went to Palestine as well. Completely ignoring Maradona, and his leftist views as well. Saying that every single game they play is somehow rigged, clearly ignoring the fact that if they could’ve played Portugal had Portugal won their group, played a good England team.

The hate towards Argentina feels like it’s transcending sport this time. It seems like Argentine culture is being defaced. Does Argentina have a problem with racism? Sure. But you can’t honestly say that England, a nation that has pillaged the world is some moral savior either.

I have family in England who support England, and that’s fine. I have a British friend who second team is Argentina, which is also fine. Why does everything have to a microcosm of something greater?

One of my favorite High school teachers was an Argentine gentleman. I remember he wore a two-star jacket to class once. We talked about football, and how we wished Messi can win one. He passed away in 2021, and he never got see the third star. Every time Argentina gets brought up, I think of him, and how much I miss him.

Bangladesh tiene una de las comunidades de hinchas de la Selección Argentina más grandes y apasionadas del mundo. Se estima que más de 90 millones de bangladesíes apoyan a la Albiceleste, lo que refleja el enorme cariño que existe por Argentina en nuestro país.

Esta pasión suele transmitirse de generación en generación. Por ejemplo, muchos de nuestros mayores se convirtieron en hinchas después de ver jugar a Diego Maradona. En mi caso, empecé a apoyar a Argentina durante el Mundial de 1998, inspirado por Gabriel Batistuta. Hoy, mis primos más jóvenes son grandes admiradores de Lionel Messi. Pueden cambiar los ídolos y las generaciones, pero el amor por la Selección Argentina permanece.

Aunque Argentina cuenta con la mayor cantidad de seguidores en Bangladesh, Brasil también tiene una comunidad muy numerosa, de aproximadamente 20 millones de hinchas. Durante cada Mundial, la rivalidad entre ambas hinchadas se vive con una enorme intensidad y, lamentablemente, en algunas ocasiones se han producido enfrentamientos y accidentes trágicos. El fútbol debería unirnos y permitirnos celebrar nuestra pasión, y nunca convertirse en una causa de violencia ni en pérdida de vidas.

También hemos notado que en algunos lugares ha aumentado la hostilidad hacia Argentina. Tras ciertos partidos, circularon campañas de desinformación que pretendían presentar a la Selección como contraria a los musulmanes e incluso difundían teorías falsas sobre Messi y su religión. En Bangladesh, parte de esa desinformación fue difundida por algunos sectores de la hinchada brasileña con la intención de reducir el enorme apoyo popular que Argentina recibe. Sin embargo, la mayoría de los hinchas bangladesíes ha continuado apoyando a la Albiceleste con la misma lealtad y el mismo entusiasmo de siempre.

En 2011, Argentina disputó en Bangladesh un partido amistoso contra Nigeria, un acontecimiento inolvidable para los hinchas locales. Sería maravilloso que este vínculo futbolístico ayudara a fortalecer aún más la amistad, la cooperación y las relaciones culturales entre Bangladesh y Argentina.

Desde Bangladesh, nuestro cariño por Argentina es sincero y profundo, y se transmite de una generación a otra. Para nosotros, la Albiceleste no es solo una selección extranjera: forma parte de nuestras emociones, de nuestros recuerdos familiares y de nuestra historia como hinchas.
